SA records 7 238 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa on Thursday recorded 7 238 new COVID-19, says the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
Representing a 24.8% positivity rate, the figure brought the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 915 258 and the National Department of Health has confirmed 31 new COVID-19 related deaths.
“Of these, 12 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 100 898 to date.
To date, 24 992 827 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
A provincial breakdown of the statistics reveals that the majority of new cases on Thursday were from Gauteng (34%) followed by Western Cape (23%).
“KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 15%; Eastern Cape accounted for 10% and Free State accounted for 6%. Northern Cape accounted for 5%; North West accounted for 4%; Mpumalanga accounted for 3% and Limpopo accounted for 1% of today’s cases,” said the Institute.
However, it is lower than Wednesday’s 22.6%. The 7-day average is 23.3%, higher than the previous day’s 23.1%.
“The 7-day average is (24.7%) today, and is lower than yesterday (25.1%),” read the statement.
On hospital admissions, the Institute said there had been an increase of 150 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
SA reports 8 179 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 8 179 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 908 020.
This increase represents a 22.6% positivity rate.
In a statement on Wednesday, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said there might be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH).
“Today, the NDoH reports 55 deaths, and of these, 18 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 100 867 to date,” the NICD said.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng (38%), followed by the Western Cape (21%). KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 15%; Eastern Cape 8% and Free State 7% of the new cases.
The Northern Cape accounted for 4%; Mpumalanga and North West 3% each, and Limpopo 1% of the new cases.
“The proportion of positive new cases/total new tested today is (22.6%), and is higher than yesterday (20.9%). The 7-day average is (23.1%) today, and is lower than yesterday (23.4%),” the NICD said.
There has been an increase of 145 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
South Africa has to date conducted 24 963 628 COVID-19 tests in both the public and private sectors.
Over 50 000 COVID-19 vaccines administered in the last 24 hours

A total of 56 769 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the last 24 hours in South Africa, including 14 409 Johnson & Johnson vaccines and 42 360 Pfizer vaccines.
According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) report on Tuesday, the vaccines administered in the last 24 hours included 20 063 first doses, consisting of 5 674 Johnson & Johnson and 14 389 Pfizer vaccines.
A total of 8 735 Johnson & Johnson booster doses were also administered, with 13 441 Pfizer booster doses.
The total number of individuals who were fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 20 204. This includes 5 674 Johnson & Johnson shots. A total of 5 699 adults and 6 831 children aged 12 – 17 years were jabbed with the Pfizer vaccine in this reporting period.
According to the Department of Health, the cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 720 427, with a recovery rate of 95.4%.
Over 5 000 new COVID-19 cases confirmed
Meanwhile, South Africa has confirmed 5 096 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 899 841.
This increase represents a 20.9% positivity rate.
The NICD reported that the majority of new cases are from Gauteng with 36%, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 19%.
The Western Cape accounted for 18%; Eastern Cape 11%; Free State 7%; Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape 3% each, and Limpopo accounted for 1% of the new cases.
A total of 24 927 476 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors, with 13 600 730 in the private sector and 11 326 746 in the public sector.
The Department of Health reported 41 deaths, with 12 of these occurring in the past 24 – 48 hours, bringing the total fatalities to 100 812 to date.
SA records 8 920 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa on Thursday recorded 8 920 new COVID-19, says the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
Representing a 23.1% positivity rate, the figure brought the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 871 085.
In the 24-hours, the National Department of Health confirmed 21 COVID-19 related deaths.
“Of these, eight deaths occurred in the past 24 to 48 hours. The cumulative COVID-19 deaths are 100 630 to date,” said the NICD.
To date, 24 804 199 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
A provincial breakdown of the statistics reveals that the majority of new cases on Thursday were from Gauteng (39%), followed by Kwa-Zulu Natal (22%).
“Western Cape accounted for 16%; Eastern Cape accounted for 7%; Free State accounted for 6%; North West accounted for 4%; Mpumalanga accounted for 3%; Northern Cape accounted for 2%; and Limpopo accounted for 1% of today’s new cases,” said the Institute.
The 23.1% proportion of positive cases was lower than Wednesday’s 25.3%.
“The 7-day average is (24.7%) today, and is lower than yesterday (25.1%),” read the statement.
On hospital admissions, the Institute said there had been an increase of 150 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
SA records over 10 000 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 10 017 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 862165.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said that this increase represents a 25.3% positivity rate.
“The proportion of positive new cases/total tested today is 25.3%, and is higher than yesterday at 23.0%. The 7-day average is 25.1% today, and is higher than yesterday at 24.7%,” the NICD said on Wednesday.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng at 39%, followed by KwaZulu-Natal at 21%.
The Western Cape accounted for 17%; Eastern Cape and Free State each accounted for 6% respectively; Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 3% respectively; Northern Cape accounted for 2%, and Limpopo accounted for 1% of the new cases.
The National Department of Health (NDoH) has reported 50 deaths and of these, 10 deaths occurred in the past 24 to 48 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 100 609 to date.
Meanwhile, there has been an increase of 164 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
South Africa has conducted 24 765 642 tests in both public and private sectors.
The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 59 358, taking the overall total to 35 307 618.
SA reports 7 523 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 7 523 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 852 148.
This increase represents a 23.0% positivity rate.
“Today, the National Department of Health (NDoH) reports 26 deaths and of these, eight occurred in the past 24 to 48 hours. The cumulative COVID-19 deaths are 100 559 to date,” the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said on Tuesday.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng (38%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (24%). The Western Cape accounted for 17%; Eastern Cape 8%; Free State 5%; North West 4%; Mpumalanga 3%, and Limpopo and Northern Cape each accounted for 1% of the new cases.
“The proportion of positive new cases/total new tested today is (23.0%), and is higher than yesterday (18.7%). The 7-day average is (24.7%) today, and is higher than yesterday (24.0%),” the NICD said.
In the last 24 hours, there has been an increase of 148 hospital admissions.
South Africa has to date conducted 24 726 029 COVID-19 tests in both public and private sectors.
SA records 6372 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 6 372 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3776298.
According to data provided by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), this increase represents a 21.1% positivity rate.
“The proportion of positive new cases/total new tested today is 21.1%, and is higher than yesterday at 18.4%. The 7-day average is 18.0% today, and is higher than yesterday at 16.9%,” the NICD said on Wednesday.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng at 49%, followed by Kwa-Zulu Natal at 23%.
The Western Cape accounted for 14%; Free State and Eastern Cape each accounted for 4% respectively; Mpumalanga accounted for 3%; North West accounted for 2%; and Limpopo and Northern Cape each accounted for 1% respectively of the new cases.
The National Department of Health (NDoH) has reported three deaths that occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours, which brings the total fatalities to 100,351 to date.
In terms of hospital admissions, the NDoH said that there has been an increase of 62 admissions in the past 24 hours.
The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 638 087 with a recovery rate of 96.3%.
The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours stands at 10, 469 bringing the total number to 34 739 327.
South Africa records 1 954 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has in the past 24 hours recorded 1 954 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 764 865.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said this increase represents a 19.3% positivity rate.
“The majority of new cases today [Monday] are from Gauteng (55%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (23%). Western Cape accounted for 11%; Free State accounted for 3%; Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 2% respectively; and Limpopo and Northern Cape each accounted for 1% respectively of today’s new cases,” the NICD said.
Thirty deaths were also reported, and of these, two occurred in the past 24-48 hours, bringing the total fatalities to 100 333 to date.
The Department of Health reported that a cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 634 446 with a recovery rate of 96,5%.
As at 19:00, 34 659 733 vaccines were administered.
SA records 2 846 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 2 846 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 746 424, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said on Wednesday.
The increase represents a 13.4% positivity rate.
“Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports 16 deaths, and of these, eight occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 100 211 to date,” said the NICD.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng (46%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (23%).
The Western Cape accounted for 17% of the new cases, Eastern Cape 6%, Free State 3%, Mpumalanga and the North West 2% each, Limpopo and Northern Cape 1% each.
Meanwhile, there has been an increase of 68 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
Additionally, 24 234 233 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
SA records 1 659 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 1 659 new COVID-19 cases bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 735 578.
This increase represents a 7.5% positivity rate, said the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) in a statement.
“Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports 16 deaths, and of these, one occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 100,132 to date,” it said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, there has been an increase of 28 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours while 24 116 414 tests were conducted in both the public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng province (47%), followed by the Western Cape (23%).
KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 16%, Eastern Cape accounted for 6%, Free State and Mpumalanga each accounted for 2%, Limpopo, Northern Cape and North West each accounted for 1% of new cases.
