SA records 989 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa recorded 989 new COVID-19 cases, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported.
The figure brought the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 713 252 since March 2020. This increase represents a 5.9% positivity rate.
“Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports one death, which did not occur in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 99 966 to date,” said the NICD on Sunday.
To date, 23 744 362 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases were from are from Gauteng (37%), followed by the Western Cape (29%).
KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 20%; Mpumalanga accounted for 4%; Eastern Cape and North West each accounted for 3% respectively; Free State accounted for 2%; and Limpopo and Northern Cape each accounted for 1% respectively.
“The proportion of positive new cases/total new tested today is 5.9%, which is higher than yesterday (5.7%). The seven-day average is 5.8% today, which is higher than yesterday (5.7%). The seven-day moving average daily number of cases has decreased,” said the NICD.
SA records 1 980 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa on Wednesday recorded 1 980 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 698 803.
The National Department of Health recorded 40 deaths and of these, three occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours, bringing the total fatalities to 99 767 to date.
There has been an increase of 46 hospital admissions in the past 24-hour reporting cycle.
To date, 23 485 052 tests have been conducted in both the public and private sectors.
In the public sector, 10 727 057 tests were conducted, while 12 759 995 were conducted in the private sector.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng (39%), followed by the Western Cape (25%).
KwaZul- Natal accounted for 16%; Mpumalanga 5%; the Eastern Cape, Free State and the North West 4% each; Limpopo 2% and the Northern Cape 1% of the new cases.
Gauteng recorded 764 cases, Western Cape 493, Limpopo 38, Free State 73, Mpumalanga 102, Northern Cape 29, KwaZulu-Natal 317, the North West 82 and Eastern Cape 82.
Over 80 000 COVID-19 vaccines administered over 24 hours

South Africa has recorded a 96.8% COVID-19 recovery rate, with a total of 83 194 vaccines administered in the last 24 hours.
“The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 578 877 with a recovery rate of 96.8%,” the Department of Health said in a statement.
The report shows that 24 276 vaccines were administered in Gauteng, followed by Western Cape with 11 416 and Eastern Cape with 11 006 vaccines administered in the last 24 hours.
A total of 9 742 vaccines were administered in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo 7 968, Free State 6 129, North West 5 643, Mpumalanga 5 482, and Northern Cape 1 532.
The report also shows that a total of 18 445 Johnson and Johnson vaccines and 64 749 Pfizer vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours.
These include 6 344 first dose and 12 101 booster doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccines in the last 24 hours. A total of 16 949 first doses, 14 811 second doses and 32 989 booster doses of Pfizer vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours.
“A total number of individuals fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours [is] 21 155,” the department said.
South Africa has recorded 3 696 823 COVID-19 cases with 1 648 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, which represents a 5.2% positivity rate.
Two deaths have been reported and of these, one occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours, bringing the total fatalities to 99 727 to date.
National State of Disaster on COVID-19 extended

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has gazetted a further extension of the National State of Disaster on COVID-19, until 15 April 2022.
In a Government Gazette issued on Monday, the Minister said the extension took into consideration the “need to continue augmenting the existing legislation and contingency arrangements undertaken by organs of state to address the impact of the disaster”.
The country has been under regulations of the National State of Disaster on COVID-19 since March 2020 when South Africa recorded its first cases of the virus.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, during his State of the Nation Address in February, said government planned to scrap the National State of Disaster as the country entered a new phase in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Later, Health Minister, Dr Joe Phaahla, said various departments were “working on alternative measures” to replace regulations related to the National State of Disaster which could be presented to the National Coronavirus Comand Council (NCCC).
SA records 671 new COVID cases

South Africa has recorded 671 new cases of COVID-19, said the Department of Health.
On Monday, the country had 18 112 active cases with no new deaths recorded in the past 24 hours.
”As of today the cumulative number of COVID cases identified in SA is 3 695 175 with 671 new cases reported. “Today zero deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 725 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 577 338 with a recovery rate of 96.8%,” it said.
The National Institute of Communicable Diseases said the new cases represented a 4.6% positivity rate.
It said due to the ongoing audit exercise by the Department of Health, there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported.
A total 23 424 639 tests had been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (45%), followed by the Western Cape (20%). Kwa-Zulu Natal accounted for 18%; while Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 5%. The Free State and Limpopo each accounted for 3%; the Eastern Cape accounted for 2% and the Northern Cape accounted for 1% of Monday’s new cases.
SA records 1 867 new COVID-19 cases

A total of 1 867 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in South Africa in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of positive cases in the country since the start of the pandemic to 3 688 423.
According to a statement issued by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), the majority of new cases were confirmed in Gauteng with 37% positive cases, followed by the Western Cape with 26% positive cases.
“KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 15%; Free State, Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 5% respectively; Eastern Cape accounted for 4%; Limpopo accounted for 3%; and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of new cases,” the NICD said.
A total of 23 314 522 tests were conducted in both public and private sectors, including 12 666 705 conducted in private and 10 647 817 in public sectors.
Thirteen deaths have also been reported, and of these, 10 occurred in the past 24–48 hours, and bringing the total to 99 656 deaths.
“The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 569 538 with a recovery rate of 96.8%,” the NICD reported.
A total of 32 332 691 vaccines has been administered in South Africa.
SA records 1 436 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 1 436 new COVID-19 cases, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 686 556.
The increase represents a 5.5% positivity rate.
According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), the majority of new cases are from Gauteng (35%), followed by the Western Cape (23%).
KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 18%, the Eastern Cape 6%, North West 5%, Free State and Mpumalanga 4% each, Limpopo 3% and the Northern Cape accounted for 2% of new cases.
The Department of Health has reported 16 deaths and of these, zero occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 99 625 to date.
A reported 23 285 855 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
In the public sector, 10 634 753 tests were conducted, while in private sector, 12 651 102 tests were conducted.
The cumulative number of cases by province are as follows: Gauteng 505, KwaZulu-Natal 257, North West 71, Free State 58 , Limpopo 41, Mpumalanga 58, Eastern Cape 81, Western Cape 334 and Northern Cape 31.
South Africa records 800 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 801 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which represents a 5.5% positivity rate.
A statement issued by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said South Africa has since the start of the pandemic recorded 3 685 120 laboratory-confirmed cases.
The institute noted that due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health, there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported.
The department reported 62 COVID-19 deaths, and of these 6 occurred in the past 24 to 48 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed fatalities to 99 609.
“The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 564 491 with a recovery rate of 96.7%,” the department said.
Meanwhile, 32 126 152 vaccine doses have been administered in the country, with 92 015 administered on Monday.
Over 1 000 new COVID-19 cases recorded in SA

A total of 1 649 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in South Africa in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 675 691.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said the increase represents a 6.3% positivity rate.
“Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported. The NDoH reports 18 deaths, and of these, six occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 99 430 to date.”
Meanwhile, 23 111 817 tests have been conducted in both the public and private sectors, with 12 548 694 tests done in private sector and 10 563 123 done in public sector.
Gauteng accounted for the majority of cases at 37% , followed by KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, each accounting for 20% and 19%, respectively. Mpumalanga accounted for 7%; Free State, Eastern Cape and North West each accounted for 4%; Limpopo accounted for 3% and Northern Cape for 2% of the new cases.
In addition, there has been an increase of 49 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
SA records 1 266 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 1 266 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 673 257.
In a statement on Sunday, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said the increase in cases represents a 6.7% positivity rate.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng (42%), followed by the Western Cape (18%).
KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 16%; Mpumalanga 8% and the North West accounted for 7%. The Free State accounted for 5%; Eastern Cape 3%; Limpopo 2%, while the Northern Cape accounted for 1% of the new cases.
“Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported. The NDoH reported 38 deaths and of these, two occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 99 229 to date,” the NICD said.
A total of 23 071 788 tests have been conducted in both the public and private sectors.
There has been an increase of 11 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
